Support ERI: Capacity building actions aimed at promoting sustainable job opportunities for vulnerable youth and women in Eritrea

SHORT DESCRIPTION OF THE PROJECT: The project intends to improve the socio-economic conditions of vulnerable and disadvantaged young people and women in rural/urban areas in Eritrea through technical/vocational training activities (TVET) in agriculture and textiles based on eco-sustainable models and practices. The activities aim at providing sound technical/transversal competences and skills also by using specific materials/tools and equipment applied to agriculture and textiles. The initiative will contribute to facilitate the double transition from the informal to the formal economy and from linear and traditional production processes to eco-sustainable and circular practices and models – agroecology; circular textiles –.

OBJECTIVES:

  • Improving the socio-economic conditions of vulnerable youth and women in rural/urban areas through capacity building activities in agriculture and textiles
  • Promoting eco-sustainable models and practices in agriculture and textiles to foster inclusive and sustainable socio-economic development in Eritrea
  • Strengthening the professional skills of young people and women towards sustainable production processes and models
  • Contributing to the environmental and social resilience of local communities in rural/urban areas in Eritrea;

ACTIVITIES:

  • Definition, organisation and implementation of two TVET training and further education programmes: i) TVET programme in the agricultural sector; ii) TVET programme in the textile sector;
  • Definition and purchase of specific materials, tools and equipment for both the agricultural and textile sector that will be used in training activities

RESULTS:

  • Improved knowledge, competences and technical-vocational skills in agriculture and textiles of young people and women with socio-economic vulnerabilities
  • Promoted new decent work and self-entrepreneurship opportunities according to the criteria of the 2030 Agenda (SDGs 8;5;10)
  • Strengthened collaboration between public/private actors and local CSOs in the definition and promotion of just transition, decent work and sustainable models and practices applied to the productive sector
