Promozione dei diritti digitali dei lavoratori in Argentina attraverso il rafforzamento delle organizzazioni sindacali e della democrazia

SHORT DESCRIPTION OF THE PROJECT: The project aims to reduce the digital divide by addressing, on the one hand, the promotion and strengthening of digital rights and skills through capacity building activities targeted at workers in the digital economy and the most disadvantaged local communities in Argentina. On the other hand, through awareness-raising and information actions, the aim will be to contrast hate speech and disinformation in social networks and to strengthen the advocacy capacities of Argentine trade union organisations. Finally, governance and dialogue between key stakeholders will be promoted for the regulation of digital rights and artificial intelligence in the digital economy. 

OBJECTIVES:

  • Reducing the digital divide and promoting access to digital rights, digital education and citizen participation in the digital ecosystem
  • Develop digital communication strategies aimed at ensuring freedom of expression and information and countering hate speech and disinformation on social networks
  • Strengthen the advocacy capacities of trade unions in Argentina for the promotion and regulation of digital rights from a perspective of social inclusion, sustainable development and decent work
  • Promote governance strategies in the field of digital rights, AI regulation, with an emphasis on workers’ rights through dialogue between key stakeholders in the digital economy (national public institutions, international multilateral organisations, civil society organisations, academia, trade unions and employers)

ACTIVITIES:

  • Capacity building and training on labour law and digital rights for workers and leadership for trade union leaders in the sectors involved
  • Advocacy activities for workers in the digital economy for the regulation and improvement of their working conditions
  • Training on digital rights and occupational health and safety (OSH) principles for workers in the digital economy
  • Training on trade union rights with a focus on gender equality in the digital economy
  • Digital education to strengthen citizens’ digital skills, with a focus on rural communities and vulnerable groups
  • Legal assistance for workers in the digital economy
  • Research and analysis on psychosocial risks for workers in the digital economy
  • Capacity building for the empowerment and trade union leadership of women workers in the digital economy
  • Prevention campaign on harassment, discrimination and violence against women at work in the digital economy sector
  • Communication, information, awareness-raising through podcasts and graphics to counter hate speech and violence in digital communication
  • Development of regulatory proposals for work in the digital economy and for regulation on the use of artificial intelligence in the world of work and development of an advocacy strategy
  • Realisation of meetings, seminars through tripartite dialogue (trade unions, employers and institutions) on the regulation of work on digital platforms and AI in the world of work
  • Establishment of an international trade union working round table to draft a proposal for an ILO convention on work in the digital economy

RESULTS:

  • Strengthened the advocacy capacity of trade unions in Argentina for the promotion and regulation of digital rights and the improvement of working conditions for workers in the digital economy sector
  • Developed trade union communication strategies to provide freedom of expression and information in the digital sphere and counter hate speech and disinformation in social networks
  • Promoted a governance strategy and dialogue between key public/private stakeholders in the digital economy (public institutions, international institutions, international agencies, civil society organisations, academia, trade unions and business organisations) in the area of digital rights, regulation of artificial intelligence, with an emphasis on workers’ rights
