The 6th Newsletter of the project “Dialoguing, training, bargaining: work as an instrument of peace – AID 11604” in Eritrea is now available. The project is financed by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS) – Regional Office in Khartoum, led Nexus Emilia Romagna (Nexus ER), in collaboration with Progetto SUD (ProSud), Istituto Sindacale per la Cooperazione allo Sviluppo (ISCOS), Volontariato Internazionale per lo Sviluppo (VIS) and, at local level, National Confederation of Eritrean Workers (NCEW).
Despite the limitations caused by the Covid-19 pandemic on the implementation of the previously planned project activities, the drafting of the research report “Working for upskilling in Eritrea: research on labour market, education and professional training needs in Asmara and Massawa” continued and it will be published soon. This study gathers important information on the Eritrean labour market and highlights the related training needs, particularly in the sectors of tourism/hospitality, ICT and air conditioning/refrigeration, considered strategic and with high development potential for the Country.
The research, besides providing a more detailed overview of the Eritrean labour market, characterized by little and insufficient data, also intends to represent a starting point for future vocational training projects aimed at promoting the creation of new decent work opportunities in contexts affected by deep socio-economic fragility.
