In this fourth Newsletter you can find the latest updates on the project “Dialogue, training, bargaining: work as an instrument of peace – AID 11604” in Eritrea, financed by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS) – Regional Office in Khartoum, led by Nexus International Solidarity Emilia Romagna (Nexus ER), in collaboration with Progetto Sud (ProSud), Trade Union Institute for Development Cooperation (ISCOS), International Volunteering for Development (VIS) and, at local level, National Confederation of Eritrean Workers (NCEW).
The Covid-19 pandemic has inevitably caused problems and delays in the implementation of the project activities initially planned. However, thanks to the extension granted by AICS that postponed the end of the first year of activity to 30 May 2021, it was completed the shipment of part of the materials which will be used for the setting up of some labs of the Training Centre in Massawa and the Social Media Centre in Asmara.
In the coming months it is expected the purchase of electronic equipment for the labs which will be necessary to proceed with the professional training of the project’s beneficiaries.
As for the training courses, the ongoing health emergency has implied to carry them out remotely. However, thanks to the commitment and collaboration of the Italian and Eritrean partners, the organization of training plans for the “Train the Trainers” is in progress. The “ToT” will be aimed at trainers, career counsellors and company tutors, which will be in charge of carrying out professional training and upgrading activities for Eritrean youth, women and people with disabilities, supporting their employment and/or re-employment and fostering decent work opportunities.
