Fighting poverty: decent work and social participation

FIELD OF INTERVENTION: Advocacy, Awareness-Raising, Professional Training

GEOGRAPHICAL AREA: Italy, entire national territory (Caserta, Bari, Bologna, Florence, Milan, Rome, Udine, Mestre, Cagliari)

SHORT DESCRIPTION OF THE PROJECT: The project strategy is to strengthen communication, to create more accountability, consensus and participation by using international cooperation commitments and good practices as carried out by the largest Italian associations: ACLI, ARCI, CGIL; CISL and UIL.
Communication will focus on concrete examples of good practices concerning projects implemented by those NGOs participating in the consortium, in particular experiences in Latin America, Asia, Africa and Europe (Balkans). The inclusion of examples from the 4 continents allows to show how, in order to address very different issues at different levels of development, fighting poverty through decent work is a successful strategy.
The project is, therefore, based on a double action: professional training, at the national level, of managers, executives, workers, volunteers; communication and widespread dissemination through mass communication tools. The contents of communication highlight the characteristics of Italian development cooperation interventions.

ACTIVITIES:

  • National self-training workshop for workers of those networks linked to the consortium with national or regional responsibilities.

  • Information campaigns during the main events organized by the associations, on print media (posters, flyers, leaflets, advertisements on magazines and newspapers), electronic media (web pages, static and animated banners), radio and TV (commercials).

RESULTS:

  • Managers and representatives of the network of associations linked to the consortium better prepared and oriented to implement international activities supporting sustainable development, decent work, civil society’s partnerships; workers, executives and volunteers of the networks linked to the consortium better prepared to consistently operate in their respective sectors and territories, in connection with national guidelines, for a greater efficiency.
  • Organized actors and subjects of civil society are made aware of the importance of their engagement in development cooperation to fight the causes of underdevelopment and the negative effects of globalization; at the same time, they are provided with the necessary information tools to improve and increase their contribution to the common effort for promoting active participation and decent work in Developing Countries.
  • Decentralized cooperation’s media and actors are informed and involved in development cooperation initiatives through their support to active participation and social representation in Developing Countries towards good governance, rights and social inclusion, therefore towards the fight against poverty.
